Tickets are on sale for a special April 8 show at Riverwind Casino that will benefit the SHINE Foundation and feature singer Kris Kristofferson and a special tribute to the late Merle Haggard.
Kristofferson will be accompanied by Haggard’s sons Ben and Noel and Haggard’s band, the Strangers. The show comes two days after the first anniversary of Haggard’s death. Prior to that, the country legend had performed a benefit for the SHINE Foundation.
Kristofferson is known for hit songs including “Why Me Lord?”, “Me and Bobby McGee” and “For the Good Times.” He has also appeared in a number of movies, including “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Any More” and “A Star is Born.” He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004.
Oklahoma County Commissioner Brian Maughan, founder of the SHINE Foundation which supports youth volunteerism, said part of the show will include the two Haggard sons and his band joining Kristofferson in performing many of Haggard’s hits. The second portion will focus on Kristofferson’s extensive songbook.
“This is really a rare opportunity for Oklahomans to see a very special performance that combines the music of two country legends,” Maughan said.
